Kansas City Plaza Lights 2011

Hello KC;

Well the Turkey has been eaten and the famous Plaza Lights have been turned on. Let the Holidays or Holidaze begin.

We love these lights and we were so happy to find that during our absence a whole program has been made in honor of the lighting ceremony.  We are so proud of the the Plaza Lights and that Kansas City does this.

When we lived in Tucson the news programs would show the lights getting turned on and we would miss our home here.

Just in case you missed the lighting of the Plaza Lights you can watch it here:

I know I will watch it over and over.

Thanks Kansas City,

KC’s WaterFire Event October 22nd

Hello KC;

We are very excited about the WaterFire event this Saturday the 22nd of October.

WaterFire left a positive impression on both of our memories when we saw it for the first time. Although we have not had the chance to see it here in Kansas City, we are sure it will be awesome.

There is something electric and calming about seeing the fires floating in water. The refection of flames, the beat of the drums (which was the music we heard at the other presentation), seems to seep into the soul and lift the spirit a little higher.

Whilst so many of us are facing traumas in our lives this event is sure to help us feel strong again. Also since many of those traumas include low funds, you will be happy to know that donors have allowed the bulk of, us to enjoy this live art installation for free.

Of course if you are not suffering from extreme financial woes and would like to be part of the donors list, they are accepting donations.

We hope you can get out and enjoy this event with your partner/spouse, lover, and/or family. I am sure it will be a great experience.

Cheers,

Entertainment Kansas City Style

Hello KC;

Wow! I have to tell you we had quite the experience this weekend.

We were lucky enough to be invited to see Emanuel Ax play Beethoven’s Concerto No. 5 inside Helzberg Hall. The hall is amazing. The mixed mediums of wood, metal, and pipes intertwined perfectly with the flow of lines and curves that shaped the hall into a architecture masterpiece. Beyond the aesthetics the sound was unlike anything I have very experienced before in my life.

First, I should admit I was excited to see the new Helzberg Hall Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts but I’m not a big classical music fan. I like Beethoven but I have never really got what the big deal was. I know some of you are cringing right now. So let me add that was until yesterday.

I was totally unprepared for the musical ride I was about to take.

I mean I had spine tingling experiences throughout the whole performance especially during Ax’s performance.

There has been a lot of talk about the acoustics in the hall. I can tell you it is not hype. Every little note no matter how softly it was played carried though to my soul. The experience was phenomenal.

I think it is un-fair to say that the Kansas City Symphony needed this hall to be world class, because I have always enjoyed their concerts but the hall sure added the atmosphere and was a performer in a way. Nonetheless, Kansas City has a world class Symphony and a world class hall to perform in that is for sure.

I don’t think I am alone in my opinion. It seems to me that all of the performers had a renewed energy and their energy pulsated though their music and I think that everyone in the audience felt it.

We all know the line “Everything’s up to date in Kansas City” well it is now at least in the musical world.

So just in case you are not sure…I highly recommend going to a concert in Helzberg Hall.

Heck, take your kids, it might just inspire them to become the next Emanuel Az or Beethoven. There are some great kid friendly concerts in the near future.

Such as:

Whatever you do enjoy Kansas City!

Cheers,

Or simply take the kids to the park and play.

No matter what KC it is a beautiful day. So let’s get out there have some fun and enjoy each other’s companionship!

Fiskars Momentum 6201 Reel Mower

Hello Kansas City;

I wanted to share this little mower with you all.

It is made by Fiskars and it is fully human powered. This is not the reel mower of your youth. The Momentum is height adjustable for the grass as well as the pusher.

I am short so a comfortable mower to push is important to me.

The are many advantages to this mower and I would highly recommend buying one if you are in the market. If you are interested in owning your own Amazon has it for a price right now that blows their competitors away.

I am really writing though to tell you that I love this mower because it makes me a better neighbor and part of the community. How?

It is silent so it won’t wake my neighbors and I can mow when it is convenient for me.  I feel like I am more apart of the community because I end up having discussions with people walking or driving by about our collective memories of reel mowers.

I’m serious, I cannot mow the lawn without at least one person (usually 3 people) stopping to talk to me about the mower. Every time I am mowing this has happened!

The other day two people starting mowing my yard for me just so they could see for themselves that it was not the mower of their youth. How great is that!

The fact that people will stop to talk is why I love KC. The fact that the mower is so earth and user friendly is just the icing on the cake in comparison to getting to know my new neighborhood.

Cheers Kansas City!

Keep it “reel” :-)

Royal Wedding Celebration In KC

Hello KC;

Picture taken from the Union Station Kansas City website

We might not all care about the Royal Wedding but some of us can not help but get excited about William and Catherine tying the knot.

There is so much to do in KC to make the most of the Royal day.

For starters you can stay in your pajamas and watch the wedding on:

  • KCPT – coverage starts a 2 A.M.
  • KMBC – coverage starts at 3 A.M via “Good Morning America”.
  • KSHB –  coverage starts at 3 A.M. via “Today” with break in segments live from Union Station.

If you want to get dressed and watch the wedding with other loyal Royal fans…then Union Station is where you’ll want to be.

Picture from the Union Station Kansas City website

The doors open at 3 A.M. for a Royal Wedding Watch Party. In fact Union Station has a day’s worth of Royal events…check it out.

Personally we have not decided as to our venue that morning but none the less we will be celebrating the whole…long…day in a Royal and British way.

We have bought scones from local places such as Dolce Baking Company clotted cream and mugs from Brits in Lawrence KS. We even have our “Keep Calm and Carry On” tea cosy at the ready.

Not a fan of the British Royals but still want to have a Royally good time? Have no fear…the Kansas City Royals are also having their own ceremony. The Kansas City Royals are featuring a triple play of deals: 1 Buck night, 50/50 Fridays, Firework Friday’s for the 7:10 P.M game against the Twins.

So KC you could have a Royally fantastic day that starts of off with a Royal Wedding and ends with a Royal victory over the Twins. Then when you are royally flushed with exhaustion you can ‘skive’ off your Saturday chores until midday while you have yourself a bit of a ‘lie-in’.

Live it up Royally KC — Cheers,

Start Time: 08:00
Date: 2011-04-30

Hello KC;

We do love our walks and runs in this city and that is, one reason, why I love KC.

However… if you are a non-participant sometimes these walks and runs can screw-up your commute. The 2011 AIDS Run/walk is on a Saturday so it should not be too much of a hassle but it might be helpful to avoid the route.

2011_AIDSwalk_Route

Hey KC!! Do you know of other walks coming up and the routes they will take? Email me and I will post the event and the route here.

Have fun KC,

Cascone’s Grill

Hello KC;

One of our favorite places to have breakfast when we lived here before was Cascone’s Grill at the River Market area.

Well this week past we were able to reacquaint ourselves with our old haunt.

The food was just as awesome as we remember. Although we usually went because of the farmers market and it is too early yet the place still filled up rather nicely. Families came because schools were out and there were plenty of the ole gang eating and hanging out.

It was awesome!

What is your favorite place for breakfast in KC?
