Hello KC;
Wow! I have to tell you we had quite the experience this weekend.

We were lucky enough to be invited to see Emanuel Ax play Beethoven’s Concerto No. 5 inside Helzberg Hall. The hall is amazing. The mixed mediums of wood, metal, and pipes intertwined perfectly with the flow of lines and curves that shaped the hall into a architecture masterpiece. Beyond the aesthetics the sound was unlike anything I have very experienced before in my life.

First, I should admit I was excited to see the new Helzberg Hall Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts but I’m not a big classical music fan. I like Beethoven but I have never really got what the big deal was. I know some of you are cringing right now. So let me add that was until yesterday.
I was totally unprepared for the musical ride I was about to take.
I mean I had spine tingling experiences throughout the whole performance especially during Ax’s performance.
There has been a lot of talk about the acoustics in the hall. I can tell you it is not hype. Every little note no matter how softly it was played carried though to my soul. The experience was phenomenal.

I think it is un-fair to say that the Kansas City Symphony needed this hall to be world class, because I have always enjoyed their concerts but the hall sure added the atmosphere and was a performer in a way. Nonetheless, Kansas City has a world class Symphony and a world class hall to perform in that is for sure.
I don’t think I am alone in my opinion. It seems to me that all of the performers had a renewed energy and their energy pulsated though their music and I think that everyone in the audience felt it.
We all know the line “Everything’s up to date in Kansas City” well it is now at least in the musical world.

So just in case you are not sure…I highly recommend going to a concert in Helzberg Hall.
Heck, take your kids, it might just inspire them to become the next Emanuel Az or Beethoven. There are some great kid friendly concerts in the near future.
Such as:
Whatever you do enjoy Kansas City!
Cheers,
